The Clay Lady’s Campus artists, students and Cone 10 customers have been successfully firing Opulence in our gas and wood kilns to Cone 6. Less firing time and less fuel for amazing results!
Opulence Glaze was developed by Dr. Richard Eppler, the foremost glaze chemist in the world, and Tom Turnbull. Manufactured by Mid-South Ceramic Supply Company, sales started in 1986 with the goal to give potters access to quality glaze results with the brillance and clarity to match any in the ceramic industry. A potter did not need to be a chemist, one only needed to add water.
Since this time many commercial glazes have joined the market, yet Opulence still stands out as the best dipping glaze available. Another advantage that was foremost in development, Opulence Glaze can be blended and/or used as a base glaze so to give each potter their own individual, signature glazes. Also, there is no question about the food safety of the glazes.
New lines are being developed under the same standards and scrutiny begun with Dr. Eppler. Now available in 5 distinctive finishes in both brushing and dipping, Opulence Glaze stays in the forefront of the commercial glaze industry. Each glaze is backed by Mid-South Ceramic’s commitment to education, quality and best results.
A broad color palette, Opulence Gloss Glazes are perfect for colorful, functional or decorative work. Not prone to move or flow, these glazes are perfect for base color when layering glazes.
These glazes are formulated to mimic a gas or wood fired look. They flow and break into secondary colors, creating adynamic effect on any clay body or when layering over other Opulence Glaze lines.
Colors of the environment, these glazes display a unique contrast of sheen and matte effects. EnviroColor Glazes break into secondary colors, similar to Opulence Reduction Look Glazes.
The saturated color and satin matte finish make these glazes stand out from the rest. Offering a soft durable finish, Opulence Satin Matte Glazes work well for functional work as well as sculpture. A slow cool after firing will draw out the matte finish beautifully.
These glazes are formulated to show clay or color variations through their glossy finish. With one dip, Opulence Translucent Glazes will pool into carvings or bands to create a more opaque color.
Opulence is a versatile glaze that delivers great results with Cone 6 firings in electric, gas or wood kilns.
