About Your Class
When: Every Tuesday from 5:30-8:30, starting the week of September 21
Duration: 9 weeks
Instructor: Olivia Mills
Price: $330 plus supplies
Planning to alter a thrown form with sculptural elements takes intention, patience and a willingness to let the form evolve. This process is a defining part of my own studio practice, and I’m excited to walk students through the way I combine thrown forms with sculptural botanical elements.
Together in this Focus Study, we’ll explore how to thoughtfully combine wheel-thrown and hand-build elements without compromising the functionality of the finished piece. Students will learn how to sculpt botanicals that move beyond simple cutouts, using a variety of hand-building techniques to create dimensional flowers, leaves and organic forms. Come with a favorite plant or flower in mind, or simply bring an open heart and your curiosity. Together we’ll explore how to coax a little bit of our vibrant natural world into our clay.
Students can expect to leave the class with 2-3 thrown and altered forms, depending on size and complexity of their project, along with the skills and confidence to continue exploring in their own work.
Because this is a focus study, this class is not for beginners and students must have the ability to create independently.
All class fees of $330 do not include starter supplies that will be purchased the first day of class at Mid-South Ceramics, the supply store on our Campus, for approximately $50. Once registered you will receive an informative email with more details from Danielle~The Clay Lady within 2 weeks.
Refund policy: Refunds are available up to 10 days before classes begin.
